EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) -- Retired Patriots player Dan Koppen has started career number two, opening up a brewery in his town of East Greenwich.

After his nine-year career as a Patriots center, followed by a quick stint with the Denver Broncos, Koppen spent the last year and a half working to open LineSider Brewing Co. alongside his partner, Jeremy Ruff.

"My wife told me I was too young to retire, so we had to figure out what the next step was," said Koppen.

Koppen said he got the idea after picking up home brewing as a hobby after he retired from the NFL in 2013.

"Going from 5 gallons to 300 gallons is a little bit nerve-wracking."

He said he couldn't think of a better place to follow his next dream than East Greenwich.

"We love this town, we love the people around here. A lot of amazing friends and businesses, the food here is amazing, so I think a brewery in this town sort of just brings everything together."

With six beers on tap, Friday's grand opening was packed with craft beer enthusiasts excited to get their first taste.

"It's nice to have something like this in our backyard. Obviously, I like good beer, and it lives up to everything I could imagine it to be," said Ryan Whalen of East Greenwich.

Koppen said the brewery has two more beers they'll be releasing soon.
